The majority of Canadians is very opposed to our army fighting in Afghanistan causing Prime Minister Harper to resort to orchestrating that John Manley avail him a report recommending what he wanted to hear.
Former cabinet minister Sinclair Stevens recently wrote Manley and his panel are attempting to fudge one of the worst mistakes in Canada’s military history. ...
When he states that we and others are there at the request of a democratically elected government in Kabul, he does not clarify that the government is dominated by corrupt war lords who are making money out of the poppy crop....
Harper, with the windfall blessing of a weak Opposition party, is hoping to wear down Canadians into believing that the extra 1,000 troops and an extra few helicopters recommended by Manley will save the day in Afghanistan, and now that NATO has promised them, he is thumping his chest touting a victory for Canada. It is not a victory for Canada! It’s a victory for Harper and his ultra right wing hawks trying to please Harper’s counterpart, George Bush.
Recently interviewed retired generals and military experts have expressed that in order to get into the comfort range, about 10,000 extra troops are needed in southern Afghanistan: 10 times as many as Manley recommended.
